Library
The Elementary School Library is a safe space where students access a wide variety of information that supports the curriculum, including personal interests. Library staff develop collections and services and create a place that reflects and welcomes diverse readers and learners within our school community.
Each class visits one block per week where librarians lead a whole group read-aloud or mini-lesson for the first 15-20 minutes. Then teachers and librarians work together to help students access reading materials that meet each individual's interests and needs. Teachers can also use library time to do reading assessments and conferences, as well as explore the library collection for class read-alouds and mentor texts. Classroom Books
A classroom library is a valuable resource that plays a crucial role in promoting literacy, fostering a love of reading, and supporting the overall educational development of students. Children will be encouraged to read more if they have daily access to meaningful and personally interesting books. Classroom libraries are integral to successful teaching and learning and in helping create life-long readers. When students are provided with well-designed classroom libraries, they interact more with books, spend more time reading and exhibit more positive attitudes toward reading.
